Imagine being in the best mood you could ever be in.
You’re laughing, you’re happy, you can feel the joy flowing through you. Imagine feeling like this and walking into a dark, cold room. There are no windows, no light flowing in. The walls are dirty and grey and have words written on them in red paint that drips like blood. Words like ‘FAILURE.’ ‘SADNESS’. ‘HOPELESS.’
Do you think you could still feel all those happy, positive feelings standing in a room like this?
Or would you feel fear? Uncomfortable? Unhappy?
The space we’re in has a direct impact on our energy and our vibrations.
Our vibrations have a direct impact on what we manifest.
So it’s very important to be mindful of what we let into our space. It’s important to monitor the energies around us and protect ourselves from anything that isn’t in line with what we want to manifest into our lives.
Energy is a very real thing – you can feel it when you walk into a room. It’s that powerful.
So if there’s somewhere that you spend a lot of time, like your home, you want to make sure that you’re not letting any negativity into that space or it will affect you.
The one thing I do not allow in my space
I recently posted on Instagram about my dislike for the news. I do think it’s important to keep up with what’s happening in the world, but I don’t like to watch the news on TV or have it on in my home.
I feel that the news breeds negativity – it’s depressing and has this way of making you feel stuck. You watch it and see all of these horrible news stories, and then you go and discuss it with your friends – and there you sit, talking about how many sick people are in the world and how it’s a scary place to live.
When you’re focused on that, you attract more of that to your life. More things to be disgusted with, more things to be scared of, things that are closer to home, because that’s the vibration you’re emitting to the universe.
So many amazing, incredible and positive things happen in the world, but these things are hardly reported in the news. A couple of months ago, I was sitting with my Mum and she decided to put the news on (she doesn’t listen to me when I tell her not to, LOL).
After all the news stories, there was this segment about how the prices of houses are rising again, meaning that soon, hardly anyone will be able to afford to buy one (or words to that effect).
I didn’t take any notice of it, because I believe in the law of attraction and I believe that I could manifest TEN houses if I really put my mind to it. But what about the people that don’t? Watching something like that is just going to make them feel hopeless and stuck in their situation.
The news reaches millions of people in their homes every evening. Why not tell them something inspiring? Something that’s going to make them feel good?
And think about it – how often do you finish watching the news and feel good??
If I want to know what’s happening in the world, which of course I do on a daily basis, I read newspapers or news websites, where I feel more in control of what I consume.
I don’t have to engage with anything I don’t think is necessary.
If I don’t want to read a news story about houses prices getting so high that I’ll never afford to buy one, I can skip past it or turn the page.
There are also a few sites that only report positive news stories, like this one which is my favourite.
Be mindful on social media
Social media is incredible. It keeps us all connected, it brings us opportunities, it’s fun, it can be inspiring. But it can also affect our energy if we consume too much of it, in the wrong way. This is another subject I discussed on my Instagram this week (follow me, by the way! I post inspirational quotes and give advice in my captions daily! :D).
With so many people showing off about their lives on social media, it can be easy to compare your own life or feel like you’re not good enough.
Also – there’s a lot of negativity online. It’s so easy to leave a negative comment under someone’s photo or criticize someone’s choices, that it happens constantly on social media – in fact, these days it’s more surprising if someone doesn’t get any hate or negativity on their page.
All these terms that are totally normal in the online world now – ‘body-shaming’, ‘slut-shaming’, ‘mum-shaming’ (what’s with all the shaming?!) – that’s the result of a new type of negativity that didn’t even exist when I was growing up. (Oh god, that makes me sound so old.)
Disconnecting from this negative energy is crucial. A social media break every now and then is refreshing, and a good way to reset your energy or get back into a positive space if you’ve been feeling low.
Protect your positive energy
The main thing I want you to take away from this post is that keeping your vibration high isn’t just about the thoughts you think, although that’s a big part of it.
It’s also about the energy you surround yourself with. Think about being the happy person in the dark, cold room again. It just doesn’t work, does it?
Some easy ways to keep good energy flowing around you:
Decluttering your space – I wrote a whole post on this so I won’t get too deep into it here – but keeping your space clutter-free clears up the energy and allows it to move and flow.
Music – Turn off the 6 o’clock news and get your favourite feel-good tunes pumping around your house instead.
Burn incense – There are so many amazing scents to try, and the smoke helps to remove negative energies from your home.
Watch out for energy vampires – Only have people in your life that make you feel good. Anyone else has to go – sorry, not sorry. Easier said than done in some cases, but this post will help.
Basically – say NO to negative energy. If it doesn’t make you feel good, do not allow it into your life.
